Preparation for First Holy Communion
Children seven years and older who wish to receive their First Holy Communion must complete a two-year Religious Education program through the Faith Formation Program.
Sign-ups are during the summer months.
In the first year of preparation, the students will complete and do their first Penance, which is the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession).
For the second year of preparation, the students will end the program by doing their First Communion.
Teenagers in High School can be enrolled in a two-year preparation program to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
What to expect:
During the first year of preparation, students will attend a weekly class. The student is expected to attend Sunday Mass and any holy days of obligation. Students will also attend a one-day retreat. A certain number of community service hours are also expected.
In the second year of Confirmation, students will need to attend a Confirmation weekend retreat with the parish Confirmation group. Additional projects and expectations are required before Confirmation can be received.
Confirmation Sponsor:
Just like a Baptism godparent, a confirmation sponsor needs to be a practicing Catholic who has been baptized and confirmed. This person needs to have done the First Communion and regularly receives the Eucharist. If married, must be married through the Catholic Church. If single, not cohabitating.
